A lot of craps players are searching for “craps systems”. The purpose of this page is to examine some of these craps systems to see if any of them offer a player a credible chance to beat the casino.

We make a distinction between a casino craps strategy and a casino craps system. A craps strategy might mean a lot of things:

  • It might be a strategy for having the most fun for the least money at the craps table.
  • It might be a strategy for controlling the dice and changing the odds in the favor of the player.
  • It might be a strategy for how to look cool while playing craps and attract members of the opposite sex.

A craps system, on the other hand, is more specific. A system player is almost always trying to manipulate his chances of winning at craps by using a system for which bets he makes and when. These kinds of gambling systems never work in the long run, because they almost always proceed from an erroneous assumption.

This erroneous assumption is that previous events have some effect on the math of subsequent events. And craps, like roulette and almost all other casino games, is a series of independent events.

It doesn’t matter how many times in a row a shooter has rolled a 7; the odds on the next throw are mathematically fixed. He’s not more likely to roll something besides a 7 just because he’s rolled a 7 several times in a row. And he’s not more likely to roll another 7 because he’s on a streak either. His chance of rolling a 7 is 5 to 1, every single time.

Winning Craps Systems

The best approach to take with anyone who’s trying to sell you a “winning craps system” is a skeptical approach.

An extremely skeptical approach.

We offer how to win at craps strategies and some information about dice control on our site, which is actually a craps strategy rather than a casino craps system, but we don’t offer any winning craps systems. If the house could be beat by something as simple as a craps betting system, then the casinos wouldn’t continue to offer the game of craps. And if they did, in the face of all logic, continue to offer a game that gamblers could beat with these “winning craps systems”, then they’d go out of business.

Free Craps Systems

The only kinds of craps systems we have any comfort in recommending are “free craps systems”. We’re not comfortable recommending free craps systems because they can help you win though; we’re comfortable recommending them because they won’t cost you money. At least not money that you paid for a system.

A certain subset of gamblers like to play according to a betting system even though they know it doesn’t increase their chances of winning. For them, we recommend playing with a free craps system they found on the Internet somewhere, rather than spending some money on some silly craps system book from John Patrick or from one of these fraudsters making outlandish claims online while they hawk their craps system ebooks.

The easy crap systems we describe below costs us nothing to relate, and costs you nothing to read or use, so it’s also a free craps system.

Easy Craps Systems

There are plenty of easy craps systems to learn available online, and you don’t need any of them. They don’t work. But if you’re looking for an easy craps system, here’s one that will minimize the house advantage. (You’re still gambling at a disadvantage, but you’re gambling at a smaller disadvantage than otherwise.)

Our easy craps system works like this:

  • Bet on the pass line.
  • If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, you win. Smile and be happy.
  • If the shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12, you lose. Smile and be happy anyway. This is a game.
  • If the shooter rolls anything else, it sets a point. His goal becomes to roll that point number again before rolling a 7.
  • You should take the odds bet when the shooter sets a point. This bet pays even odds, and is usually available in some multiple of the pass line bet.

The house edge on the pass line bet is 1.41%, but when you combine that with the odds bet of 2X your original bet, the house edge is reduced to 0.6%. This is an easy craps system, yes, but it’s also a losing craps system. But it’s a good system because it minimizes the house edge, which means you’ll lose your money more slowly.

Losing money more slowly = having more fun for less money. And that’s the best you can hope for from any craps gambling systems.
