  • I picked up a cheap nat young 9'4'' cts construction on ebay, I have only ever ridden custom mals before and love my custard point 9' 2'' but due to it being better for bigger waves, I picked up the bic for smaller stuff, I also thought it would be more fun in crowded conditions with learners & kooks dropping in on the south coast and saunton and am always a bit more wary on the CP.I was probably a plastic snob before trying it but I now call it the plastic fantastic and am a true bic convert. The board is called DEBBIE after a girl I know with silicone breasts(plastic fantastic), the Bic is a great ride, its a fast paddler, smooth & predictable in the turn but not as quick as you may want for progressive manouvres, it nose rides a treat providing you have the tail fairly close to the pocket of the wave. Its slightly heavier than a standard custom but nothing like the 'old' bics, a rounded pin tail and narrow rails also helps it hold in nicely on steeper waves, and the standard fin set up suits the board perfectly.

    pro's
    strong construction,
    easy paddler(very fast),
    good nose rider,
versatile - I have used it in knee high mush and well over head high clean surf.
you dont have to worry (too much)if somebody is dropping in on you.
you get to glide past the £800.00 boards with them looking on in disbelief.
you can pick them up quite cheaply if you are patient as people who have learned on them think they are progressing onto a custom board! (wrong)
    traditional feel.

    con's
expensive new compared to a custom.
plastic seems more difficult to get wax to stick to than resin.
it also seems to constantly look dirty, unlike the custom.
even the lightweight cts construction is heavier than my custom but only just and this is not neccessarily a bad thing, especially in a strong offshore.
people think you will be a learner, because you are riding a 'standard hire board'(eg saunton) and may well treat you like one initially but again this is not neccessarily a bad thing.( a bit like having a ferrari engine under the bonnet of your reliant robin).
