Johnson W8000 ROWER
Extremely poor quality for a £900 product. I acquired one of these pre-sale through a friend (I didn't pay for it - just as flippin well!!). I have rowed 100 miles and am now quite disappointed with all of its grumbles, niggles and petty quirks. Don't get me wrong, it's a great rower - for a couple of hundred quid, but for £900 I would expect something totally bulletproof, especially given it's competition.
The seat consists of 3 plastic rollers which roll along the aluminium frame, they wear unevenly so the ride rapidly becomes anything but smooth and even becomes slightly noisy.
The computer is completly INACCURATE and USELESS. Using a friend and a chronometer, try comparing the displayed distance with the time and the rate / 500m reading and you'll see that the computer is a load of old cobblers. Although this shouldn't matter, as long as it is consistently wrong every time you row, then you can still evaluate your performance over time - but for £900!!! Come on...
Finally the real irritant - the weighted fly wheel clatters like an 8-year old's Raleigh Grifter with pegs and playing cards attached to his wheel. Absolutely unforgiveable for a machine with only 100 miles on the clock and costing £900. I am going to take apart the modular flywheel unit tomorrow to have a look at it, but I resent having to do so.
Summary - if you were to pay £200-300 for this, a fraction of the cost, then it would be worth it. If you are going to pay £900 then you are a mug. Check out Concept. More...
